Mission Nasaru is a web comic that centers around a man named Jack. He was a science officer on an earth ship. While studying a black hole an explosion forced the crew to abandon ship. Jack’s stasis pod was later found on an unknown planet by a society of humans. The people on the planet live very differently then humans on earth. Jack finds himself lost. Not knowing how long his pod was drifting in space, or how far it had travelled. He is stuck having to adapt to life on a foreign planet. The people on the planet have questions about their unknown history as well. Jack is able to find purpose helping them uncover their past while he figures out where and when he is.
The story begins 5 years later. Jack has become captain of a ship about to leave the planet.
Explore the solar system, and uncover the answers to their mysterious past.
Mission nasaru is a science fiction comic with naturist values. Science fiction is straight forward, but what is naturist values? Lets first define naturism. The Federation of Canadian Naturists defines it as;
Naturism is being naked without it having anything to do with sex or sexual activities.
“The purpose of naturism is to promote wholesomeness and stability of the human body, mind, and spirit. These come most easily to those who shed the psychological and social encumbrance of clothing, to see and respect the human body as created.”
Mission Nasaru shows nudity, but will NOT SHOW sex, sexual activities, extreme violence, or vulgar language.
Most web comics use a page based format. Which is a picture of a comic book page with 1-6 panels. This is the standard for printed comic books. I find online it can be annoying to have to scroll down and zoom in and out depending on the device you use.
For Mission Nasaru I decided to use a panel based format. One page is equal to one panel. It allows me to take advantage of Squarespace gallery’s and post the gallery as a chapter. The reader gets a page or two worth of panels but can easily flip through them.
My name is Darren and I live in Alberta Canada. I am a big fan of science fiction movies and TV-shows. Friends would say if it has a spaceship, robot, or time machine, I would most likely enjoy watching it. Science fiction from any decade has its own unique view of the world and the future. Even the set designs and costumes give the reader a sense of what the writer thinks the future or a distant society might look like.
On holidays when the weather is nice I enjoy going to nude beaches and naturist resorts. It is a beautiful culture which is radically different from the poisoned way we are conditioned to view the world, others, and ourselves in the society we live in. At a resort you can see what a world would be like if you took away all the labels we give people, and labels people give us. When you are nude among other nude people in a non-sexual setting, you are among other humans nothing more, and nothing less.
For a very long time I have had a story brewing in my head. Just this year (2017) I decided to get it out on the web. I do not consider myself an artist, graphics artist, or writer and am not a professional in any of those categories. I just really love working on this comic and sharing it with the world.
My hope is that some people might enjoy reading it as much as I do making it.
